Free IT Toolbox

SPF lookup analyzer.

Look up the SPF record for your domain, expand its included records and see how the DNS lookup terms add up against the limit of 10. This tool sends the domain to our server and public DNS resolvers. No account is needed.

Enter a public domain, without https:// or a path. We send this domain and its SPF include targets to public DNS resolvers. Results may be cached for one minute.

How to reduce SPF lookups

Remove services that no longer send mail for you. If a marketing or notification service supports it, give that sender a separate subdomain and its own SPF record. Confirm every real sender before changing DNS.

Flattening replaces includes with IP ranges. Those ranges go stale when providers change their servers, so only flatten if you can keep the record updated. This tool does not rewrite your DNS.

SPF counts include, a, mx, ptr, exists and redirect terms, including nested terms. The initial TXT lookup and literal ip4/ip6 terms do not count toward 10. Empty DNS answers have a separate limit. Avoid ptr, which the SPF standard discourages.

Counts follow the structure described in RFC 7208. This is not a delivery test: macros, a sending IP and DNS changes can affect a receiver’s result.
